Our Visits to the DHBVN Office

What is this about? To understand why our electricity is so expensive, a resident visited the DHBVN (government electricity department) offices. Here is what happened at each visit — in plain language.

Visit 1 — Wrong Office (Sector-23)

Told the Junior Engineer (JE) that residents are paying very high electricity rates. Requested that each flat should get its own separate DHBVN meter connection.

JE's First Answer: "Not Possible"

He said DHBVN gives only one single connection to an apartment building. Individual connections for each flat are not given.

From DHBVN's side — they supply electricity to the building. What the builder or maintenance agency charges residents inside the building is not DHBVN's concern.

The Big Discovery — Individual Connections ARE Possible

DHBVN has a special Builder Portal that allows each flat to get its own meter

Plain language summary: When we showed the JE that a nearby private builder (Atharva Raheja) already has individual DHBVN connections for each flat, he was surprised. After checking, he admitted there IS a way — through a special builder portal on the DHBVN website. Our builder just needs to register and apply.

जब मैंने पहली बार अपना electricity bill देखा और उसे neighbouring societies के bills से compare किया — मुझे बहुत तकलीफ हुई। हम एक ही शहर में, एक ही type की society में रहते हैं, same बिजली use करते हैं — फिर भी हम हर महीने ₹1,931 ज़्यादा pay कर रहे हैं।

When I first compared our electricity bill with neighbouring societies, I felt deeply troubled. Same city, same type of society, same electricity usage — yet we pay ₹1,931 more every single month. That is ₹23,172 per year — money that should stay in our families' pockets.

यह report मैंने किसी को नीचा दिखाने के लिए नहीं बनाई। मैंने यह इसलिए बनाई क्योंकि मुझे लगा कि हर resident को सच पता होना चाहिए। जब हम facts देखते हैं, तो हम सही सवाल पूछ सकते हैं — और सही सवाल ही बदलाव लाते हैं।

I did not make this report to embarrass anyone. I made it because every resident deserves to know the truth. Knowledge gives us the power to ask the right questions — and the right questions bring change.

Every month ₹1,789 leaves each flat as fixed charges — before a single unit of electricity is consumed. This is not fair to hardworking families.

Society must provide a detailed monthly expense statement showing how ₹9,500 maintenance is spent across all 10 services.
